“DYNAMIC ACHIEVEMENT”

“This book absorbed me fully from the first chapter, and the suspense grew steadily throughout. If you want a riveting glimpse of the confusion, chaos, horror, and poignant humanity of war (in this case, World War II Italy), this book delivers. Every last character came alive for me, vivid in their beauty–or evil! I will never forget this book. The story is haunting, and hauntingly beautiful. Love and hatred and everything in between is conveyed brilliantly. Kudos to Pamela Allegretto for her dynamic achievement!”

My most heartfelt gratitude to Wendy Haugh for taking the time to write this amazing review on Amazon. It left me speechless. And those who know me, know that is not an easy feat. La vita e` bella!

EARTH DAY

EARTH DAY
In celebration of EARTH DAY, I thought I would post my painting of the Pololu Valley Lookout, on the North West corner of the Big Island of Hawaii.
Cheers to Mother Earth for bestowing us with this awesome vista. She provided us with clean water to drink, pure air to breathe, and non-polluted crops to eat. All She asks in return is that we take care of these gifts and keep it that way.
We are one, all Mother Earth’s children. I still have hope that in my lifetime I will see everyone, despite their race, ethnicity, religion, lack of religion, economic situation, sexual orientation, etc., treated with dignity. How hard is it, really, just to treat people the way you want to be treated?
Happy EARTH DAY!!!

“CRAZY FUN CAPER IN VENICE”

Ευχαριστώ πολύ to Pamela Jane Rogers, noted author and artist, for writing this fabulous review. I am honored.

“What a fun and galloping merry-go-round this book takes us for a ride on! Characters both real and lovable – scary times with the dastardly and hilarity with the comic figures that could have hopped out of a Pink Panther continuation! From the posh to the paltry, they are all suspect, along with our dear protagonist, Carla! As she slips into her designer pumps and prepares to dash to her art exhibit opening … but which one is the thief? Surely not her dear friend, nor the handsome Dario – whodonnit? I loved Pamela Allegretto’s first serious novel, and although this one is very different, her storytelling is just as powerful. Especially during these at-home times, I’ve enjoyed this lighthearted read immensely. Do read it if you want to be smiling at the end – and hoping to join captivating Carla on… another adventure?”

EASTER BUNNY VISIT

The Easter Bunny came early. No chocolate eggs but something much better, this lovely review from Mary Kay McCabe. She started reading the paperback, misplaced it, and finished the read on her Kindle. Such an enthusiastic reader is truly an author’s dream.

“Could not find my paperback copy of Ashes to Ashes, Diamonds to Dust anywhere! Needed to read it, so I bought a copy on Kindle and spent the next 10 hours reading it! I have NEVER done that before, but could not put it down except to get something to eat or drink or to let my Border Collie out! Awesome book! Can’t wait for your next one! Loved the reference to your last book! Thanks so much for a great read.”

“CRAZY GOOD”

My most heartfelt thanks to award-winning author, Marina Osipova, for writing such an amazing review. I am honored.

“I really couldn’t put it down. Crazy good! It was a welcome distraction from WWII subject, like a current of fresh air for my mind and mood. Thank you for writing such great books.

ASHES TO ASHES, DIAMONDS TO DUST

A likable main character (Carla Romano)—smart, inquisitive, and funny at times; a beautiful setting (Venice) that made me feel like I was there; endless twists and turns as the story unfolds—I was glued to the screen; and even a little romance, you have it all in this skillfully written, amusing, and intriguing story with satisfying resolution. I loved it a great deal and can highly recommend Ashes to Ashes, Diamonds to Dust to lovers of cozy mystery and of just an enjoyable read.”

DAY LILY

Although the ability to identify most flowers by their proper name eludes me, and my lack of floristic knowledge is often times manifested when for example, I paint rose leaves on a daisy. Still, I like to paint flowers and will continue to do so, be they authentic reproductions or flowers that reside only in my mind’s eye. I think there’s not such thing as an ugly flower, whether real or imagined.

ASHES TO ASHES, DIAMONDS TO DUST

My second novel: Ashes to Ashes, Diamonds to Dust has been published.

“Venice sets the stage for a diamond caper gone wrong, where everyone is someone else, and no one can be trusted.

During her Venetian trip to participate in an international art exhibition, Carla Romano brings along her deceased friend’s ashes. But is that all she has in her tote bag? The FBI, Venetian police, and a gaggle of misfits believe otherwise. Five-million-dollars in stolen diamonds are expected to be unloaded in Venice, and Carla is the suspected bag lady.

Slipping into designer shoes and donning her sleuth-in-training cap, Carla sets out in a city of secrets that everyone knows, to solve a diamond caper with more twists and turns than the Venetian labyrinth of narrow streets and canals.”

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

TO MARKET

TO MARKET

TO MARKET

On this International Women’s Day, I want to thank “International Women Artists” for featuring this painting in your Fineartamerica gallery. I am honored to have my work alongside such gifted artists.

For me, big, bold colors reflect the joys of a tropical island. Taking life too seriously is for city dwellers. In my mind’s eye, on a tropical island I don’t see brown palm trees; I prefer purple. My turtle’s shell isn’t grey; it’s orange. And my sun is one big happy fella. In this painting, I purposely omitted details, shadows, and folds. I wanted to keep it as uncomplicated as island life. It’s all about celebrating color and simplicity.

SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD

SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD

SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD

I have been nominated by accomplished, award-winning author, Angela Petch, for the SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD. What an uplifting title with a joyful icon. On these last days of winter, who isn’t ready for sunflowers?! Cheers to Mother Earth for bestowing us with these awesome flowers. She has provided us with so much: clean water to drink, pure air to breathe, and non-polluted crops to eat.

It would be wonderful if the whole world could be as understanding and supportive as artists and writers are with each other. We don’t care about who lives where and what the politics are of any country. We don’t care about race or religion, or lack of religion. We care about each other as human beings with a shared love of beauty and artistic freedom.

As well as being a fantastically supportive blogger,  Angela Petch is also an author, and her book “ Mavis and Dot : Frolics, foibles and friendships by the seaside”  is one of my favorites. Angela’s cleaver banter, appealing supporting cast, and timely social issues weave a unique and memorable story. I rarely clamor for a sequel, but in the case of Mavis and Dot, I make the exception: I want more.

I am thrilled to say that my WW2 novel Bridge of Sighs and Dreams continues to sell well. My latest novel Ashes to Ashes, Diamonds to Dust will be released within the next few weeks. The two books are polar opposites in theme and tone. I suspect that’s due to my fickle Gemini nature.

Angela sent me 11 questions and here are my answers:

1. When you were little, what did you dream about becoming when you grew up?

I wanted to be an archeologist. I have always been fascinated with the distant past. Although, I don’t like the idea of digging up graves. I’ve often wondered how long a person has to be dead before grave-robbing becomes an archeological dig.

  1. What is something you like to do the old-fashioned way?

Write and receive “snail” mail. Nothing takes the place of opening a “real” mailbox to discover a hand-written letter from a friend.

  1. What is one of your favorite smells?

Tomato sauce simmering on the stove and bread in the oven.

  1. If you could call anyone in the world and have a one-hour conversation, who would you call?

I would call a childhood friend who is going through a difficult time.

  1. What job would you be terrible at?

A high-rise window washer.

If you had a million pounds/dollars, what would you do with them to help the most people?

I would buy food and medical supplies for refugees. Of course, a million dollars would only scratch the surface of what is needed. What we need is for officials and leaders around the world to understand the futility and ugliness of war and discrimination, and to treat others with the dignity they expect for themselves.

  1. For one day, you can do whatever you want. What would you do?

Spend the day at the Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia

  1. Give me three words to describe yourself.

Sympathetic, creative, optimistic.

What is your favorite food treat?

Pasta.

  1. What is your favorite outfit?

Faded Calvin Kline jeans and a black turtleneck.

You have one last wish… go for it!

A new president in 2020.

That was a bit of fun. Thank you,  Angela Petch . And now, I get to nominate 11 more friends to continue this SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD.  (Only if they want to… I know we are all very busy.)

The SUNSHINE BLOGGERS AWARD empowers bloggers to celebrate other bloggers who are creative and bring positivity to the blogging community. So, I nominate:

Jennifer S. Alderson

Eva Pasco

PJ Mann

Kathryn Gauci

Jane Risdon

Linda Lee Greene

Toni Kief

Pat Camalliere

Wayne Turmel

Pamela Jane Rogers

Marina Osipova

Chrystyna Lucyk-Berger

Oops, that’s 12.  Oh well… che sara, sara`!

There are a few rules to follow:

Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their blog.

Answer the 11 questions that I set below.

List the rules and display the SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD on your own blog post.

Nominate 11 new bloggers and their blogs and ask your nominees 11 NEW QUESTIONS.

Here are my questions to you:

  • When you were young, what was your dream career? If it wasn’t to be a writer, what changed your mind?
  • What makes you angry? How do you tame the lion?
  • Have you ever allowed a “dream-crusher” to cloud your self-worth as a writer? How did you lift that cloud?
  • What literary figure, alive or deceased, would you like to interview?
  • Do you enjoy the editing process? If so, why? If not, why not?
  • If you could be proficient in another language, which would you choose? Why?
  • If you believed in reincarnation, what century might you have lived in and who were you?
  • If you were a schoolteacher, what class would you teach and why?
  • Do you prefer to stay in touch with close friends via texting, messenger, email, or phone call? Why?
  • What was one of your best days?
  • How would you like to be remembered?

“IT WAS AMAZING”

What a fabulous way to end the year! Thank you to noted author M.P. Tonnesen for taking the time to write such a lovely review.

“A gripping, beautifully written story of love, war, and human nature set in Italy during the Second World War.
Allegretto skillfully makes the characters come alive and lets the plot unfold, twist and turn as we root for the good to conquer the bad in the vivid scenery.
A great read for history, romance, and travel lovers!”
